THOMAS GOSNELL

CLARINETIST • EDUCATOR • COMPOSER

Thomas Gosnell is a clarinetist in the North Bay area. He recently completed his master’s degree in clarinet performance at the University of North Texas, studying under Phillip Paglialonga and Gregory Raden. He holds a bachelor’s of music education from Sonoma State University, studying with Roy Zajac. Mr. Gosnell currently serves as an applied instructor of clarinet through the Santa Rosa Symphony Youth Orchestras, as well as schools throughout the California's North Bay Area.


At the University of North Texas, Gosnell has been a member of the North Texas Wind Symphony since 2022. Under the direction of Professor Eugene Corporon, he performed in concerts and clinics at the Texas Music Educators Association, and participated in recording projects. He also helped form a graduate clarinet trio who gave on- and off-campus performances during the year. He taught clarinet at Keller ISD and Dallas ISD, where he gave private lessons and masterclasses to students of grades 6-12. His students have gone on to pursue careers in music through institutions such as the University of Texas at Austin, the University of North Texas, and Michigan State University.


During his time at Sonoma State University, Mr. Gosnell held principal and section roles in the university’s Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, participated in jazz ensembles, and was involved in chamber, solo and pit orchestra performances. In 2019 he performed E-flat clarinet with the Santa Rosa Symphony for several performances, including the world premiere of Matt Browne’s How the Solar System Was Won (2018).


Mr. Gosnell has ample experience performing all instrument in the clarinet family. His tone has been described as “mellifluous and rich” with a “mature sense of phrasing and musical sensitivity." He is equally apt in wind band, orchestral, solo, and chamber music repertoire. Gosnell has freelancing experience in the DFW metroplex and the Bay Area, with genres ranging from classical to jazz to funk.
